Cohort Roster — The Advanced Class (34 Students)

These 34 are not all the awakened students in Riven's year. Every human awakens at 17 and the Greyveil Academy cohort numbers in the hundreds. This roster is the advanced class — a group of around 34 identified by instructors in the first few months of Year 1 for accelerated training without formal separation from the main cohort. Selection isn't announced; it emerges from how instructors teach and who they pay attention to. By mid-Year 1 everyone knows who's in it.

The class mixes students from all five Greyveil primary schools. Every student is F-rank at Awakening Day — F is where everyone starts, no exceptions. Rank is earned from there.

Millhaven (6)

Name Type Background
Riven Cael Lightning Protagonist. 44 years lived experience. One continuous memory stream — no dual-self.
Maria Voss Radiation (Nuclear) — classified on Awakening Day as Decay (Tier 4, stigmatized). The misidentification is canon; her file reads Entropy-Decay even as her expression clearly stops behaving like Decay by C-rank. Trajectory: top-three practitioner on Eldra by series end. Edric's daughter. Grew up with Riven.
Tomas Brenn Fire Riven's childhood friend. Foundry worker's son. Loud, loyal, charges in without checking. Riven remembers him dying at the barricades.
Sera Vatch Wind Maria's closest friend. Quiet, practical. Doesn't like post-regression Riven — he's acting wrong and she can't name why.
Kellam Ord Strength Big, steady, unambitious. Wants guild work to support his family.
Lina Drost Healing Serious, underestimated. Would rather fight than heal.

Thornwall (8)

Name Type Background
Dorian Holt Gravity Once-a-decade type. Genuine warmth. Sister Wren — Sorel's leverage.
Mira Corenthi Ice Founding family descendant. Carries the name like a weight she didn't choose. Quiet, precise.
Orlen Varenthi Fire Founding family remnant. Loud about it. Overcompensates. Challenges everyone.
Cassiel Maren Lightning Thornwall's golden student. Wealthy, talented, aware of both. Leans into Sorel's reflected lightning prestige.
Isobel Tarne Speed Old money, low profile. Strategic, says little. Possible Reach family connections.
Daven Kess Kinetic Redirection Athletic, competitive. Sees the academy as a leaderboard.
Aldis Fenn Wind Bookish, out of place among Thornwall climbers. Studies Mark theory for its own sake.
Breck Lowe Stability (Nuclear) Physically imposing, not sharp. Legacy admission — family money, not talent.

Crestmont (7)

Name Type Background
Petra Cress Healing Expected combat-prestigious. Got support. Channeling frustration into surveillance.
Galen Hask Strength Measured, calculated, always assessing who's useful. Transactional.
Nara Selk Transmutation Industrial ability. Her family sees business opportunity. She hates that they might be right.
Corvin Tade Fire Reliable, steady, never flashy. Does what's asked, nothing more.
Elise Parr Light Initially dismissed. Will prove it's more than scouting — not yet.
Wynn Calvor Sound (Momentum) Niche, underestimated. Quiet. Creative in ways nobody notices until it matters.
Jonas Mere Shockwave Enthusiastic, slightly reckless. Married into merchant money, not born to it.

Ashford (7)

Name Type Background
Hale Morin Strength Farmer's build, farmer's patience. Speaks rarely. Worth hearing.
Fen Carrow Wind Grew up nearest the Ashline. Knows the territory. Ashline Five.
Della Marsh Healing Rural healer's daughter. Field experience. More competent than academy healers twice her age. Ashline Five.
Owen Strade Stability (Nuclear) Steady, reliable, invisible. The wall nobody notices until he's the only thing standing.
Brin Tavish Fire Restless. Awakening is his exit from farming. Pushes too hard, too fast.
Soraya Dunn Decay Stigmatized — worst type. Isolated. Sharp, bitter, sees everything.
Marten Kole Speed Quick in every sense. Thinks fast, decides fast. Sometimes before he should.

Harrowfield (6)

Name Type Background
Loric Pell Lightning Harrowfield's pride. The attention embarrasses him. Quietly competent.
Asha Vren Ice Calm, careful, precise. Never makes mistakes, never takes risks. Capped by caution.
Tomek Grail Strength Cheerful, large, friendly. Everyone likes him, nobody takes him seriously. Stronger than he lets on.
Jess Halden Poison Stigmatized. Defiant about it. Refuses to be ashamed.
Nerys Cade Wind Sharp, fast-talking, abrasive. Asks the question nobody else will.
Cal Brenin Fire Steady, unremarkable, consistent. Says he's fine with it.

The 34 represents a skewed sample — the advanced class leans toward combat-useful expressions because instructors pay more attention to students whose types suggest combat potential. The broader Year 1 cohort (hundreds of students) has a flatter distribution including the trade-track types (more Fire bakers and Ice preservers than combat instructors notice).

The Ashline Five

  1. Riven Cael (Millhaven, Lightning) — knows the collapse is coming
  2. Maria Voss (Millhaven, TBD) — refuses to be excluded
  3. Dorian Holt (Thornwall, Gravity) — genuinely curious
  4. Fen Carrow (Ashford, Wind) — knows the territory, personal stake
  5. Della Marsh (Ashford, Healing) — keeps them alive
